Taking great care & reverance when working with this magnificent & powerful plant, we harvest with the utmost consideration for its health & ongoing growth, ensuring the plants are there for generations to come.

Devils club is scientifically named Opolanax horridum & literally can be broken down into three parts: oplo meaning 'armored', panax meaning ‘heal-all,’ and horridus meaning 'fierce'. Thus, this plant signifies a fiercely armored heal-all, a fitting description.

Devils club belongs to the Araliaceae family and shares a relation with ginseng & acts as an adaptogen, aiding the adrenals by regulating the body’s response to stress, and it may nurture and calm an overactive nervous system when taken as a tincture or tea.

Traditionally, Devil’s club is recognized as a potent expectorant and respiratory stimulant, facilitating mucus production to initiate beneficial coughing and speed up the recovery from respiratory infections, used to alleviate various conditions such as arthritis, ulcers, digestive tract problems, and diabetes. Several Indigenous communities including Cree, Haida, Halkomelem, Heiltsuk, Metis, Nlaka’pamux, Nuxalk, Sechelt, Secwepemc, Squamish, Stl’atl’imx, Straits Salish, and Tsimshian have a documented history of using it for diabetes treatment.

This plant is one of the most important spiritual and medicinal plants to most communities who live within its range & is always to be respected as overharvesting is a real threat to the beauty. We always go the extra mile to harvest susatainably & with permission from both the plant and indegeous peoples lands we harvest on.
